Below are links to two different articles which describe how the lymphatic system functions. The first is from a very interesting website called “Lymph Notes,” and the second is from the National Institute of Health. The NIH page is actually about the immune system, but shows how the lymph system works within it. Both are clear and straightforward. Here are the links:
National Institute of Health - Immune System
Not surprisingly, the National Institute of Health has an enormous database of health related information. It’s a great place to find answers to just about any question regarding human physiology, fitness, diseases, nutrition, etc.
The “Lymph Notes” website, though comparatively small, is a terrific site for people with lymphedema or anyone interested in learning more about the subject. It’s easy to read, informative, and has been put together by women who have either had lymphedema or have worked with lymphedema sufferers for many years. Their genuine concern for people with the disease is somehow evident throughout the site, and they offer a lot of information about treatments, research, and ways of coping with the illness. It’s well worth a look.
