The National Osteoporosis Foundation is the preeminent organization in the United States for information and research regarding osteoporosis. Here is how they describe themselves on their website:
“The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) is the leading health organization dedicated to preventing osteoporosis and broken bones, promoting strong bones for life and reducing human suffering through programs of public and clinician awareness, education, advocacy and research. Established in 1984, NOF is the nation's only health organization solely dedicated to osteoporosis and bone health.”
We quote the following very sobering passage from the NOF website:
“About nine million Americans have osteoporosis and an estimated 48 million have low bone density. This means that nearly 60 percent of adults age 50 and older are at risk…one in two women and up to one in four men age 50 and older will break a bone due to osteoporosis.”
If you, or someone you care about, is dealing with osteoporosis, osteopenia, or related bone density issues, we strongly suggest you visit the NOF website. It’s extremely comprehensive and very user-friendly, with all sorts of information regarding treatment, research, strategies for coping with the disease and ways to find help and support.
Please visit The National Osteoporosis Foundation to read more and support their great cause.
